You are Entering Sacred Space

By Dr. Judy Scher

You are Entering Sacred Space. Wonder if you saw signs with those words posted everywhere you went? On buildings, doors, parks, schools. Everywhere. What would that activate in you? Would you read it quickly, then walk on by, let the words drift to the back of your mind? Or would those words awaken something inside you, something that said: "Pay attention. Focus differently. Act differently."

When we walk into churches, temples, ashrams, meditation rooms and sacred sites, there is a cultural acknowledgement that we are in a sacred space. By acknowledging that we have entered a sacred space, we connect with ourselves differently; we act differently, think differently, and relate to others differently. Sacred space asks us to pay attention. It asks us to elevate our comprehension of Life’s experiences and know that there are deeper meanings and wisdoms available. It asks us to respect not only the space, but ourselves and others while in that space. Many of us have felt this transformation happen inside a designated sacred space. But when we leave these places that are imbued with "special powers" and return to "normal life", with its routine habits and expectations, we often feel a drop in energy.

Imagine a new scene: You wake up in the morning, and the first thing you see when you open your eyes is a sign floating in the air in front of you that says, you are entering sacred space. Then you get up and go to the bathroom, and there on the mirror is a sign that says, you are entering sacred space. When you go to open your closet, pull out clothes to get dressed, there is a sign that says, you are entering sacred space. And when you go to your kitchen to have breakfast (yes, you guessed it), there is a sign on the refrigerator that says, you are entering sacred space. Imagine this continues throughout your day. Everywhere you go you see these signs. You can’t get the words out of your mind. You start repeating the words everywhere you go – you are entering sacred space - no matter what time of day, no matter what you are doing.

You are entering sacred space. When you begin to change your thoughts, to act differently, to feel differently, to express differently, quite spontaneously you will feel connected to a different energy source. Eventually, it will be hard to remember how you had lived your life before. The life before entering sacred space will seem dull in comparison to your present experience. The awareness revealed to you is that you are a part of this sacred space, not separate from it. You are made of the same substance.

You are entering sacred space. Once you have had this experience and you try to return to "normal life", you will find that you're only reinforcing a smaller version of yourself, based upon conditioned beliefs. Yes, those beliefs were constructed for your survival, embedded in your brain and nervous system as a child, but they no longer serve who you need to be now. Returning to a "normal life" after experiencing the vibrancy of the sacred space, you may feel suffering of a sort rarely experienced before. The reason for this is that Life is the cheerleader for your soul’s expression. Life wants you to realize who you really are and to live congruently with that truth. Once you have tapped into this vibrant, this knowing, Life gives you distinct wake up calls to make sure that you don’t go back to sleep again. These wake-up calls, although sometimes painful, are not a punishment, but part of Life's profound wisdom.

You are entering sacred space. Move through your day with this new focus. Know that you are made of the earth and the stars and share in a universal divine inheritance. Everything you do, from dancing, to working out, to eating, to going to the bathroom, to visiting friends, to your career, carries this knowing. Life itself is shining wisely through you, always, no matter what is going on around you. You no longer need to "enter" sacred space because you bring it with you wherever you are, wherever you go.
